Plettenberg Bay

Tshisa Talent introduces the first African Waves Arts Festival. The African Waves Arts Festival will be an annual festival starting this year in Plettenberg Bay, 7th October 2023. The vision is to create an annual event that will provide local artists with opportunities to embrace their talents and to get to share the stage with some well-established artists. With this festival comes an opportunity for cultural revival as the African Waves Arts Festival is about embracing African cultures.

On the day, the festival will be divided into three stages:

1. Stage 1 - Indigenous Stage

The indigenous music component is hosted by a group called the Ancient Voices. They will introduce uhadi, IsiXhosa singing and dance at St Peter’s Anglican Church hall. Their workshop runs from 11h00 till 12h00 followed by a wonderful performance at 13h00.  We will also be entertained by a Riel dance workshop prepared by the Khoisan Riel Dance Group at the same venue, starting with a workshop from 08h00 till 10h00 and a performance with Ancient Voices from 13h00 till 14h00. Both workshops are free. The entry fee for the collaborative performance is R120.

2. Stage 2 - The Discovery Stage

This will be an exciting outdoor stage, next to the taxi rank in town. Entry for this outdoor stage will be FREE of charge. On this stage we will feature the amazing talent of over 20 local Plett artists who Tshisa Talent has discovered through a series of talent search programs.

They will be accompanied by the winners of our online poetry competition and a handful of freshly discovered talent from Hankey in the Eastern Cape

3. Stage 3 - The Main Stage

The last and main event of the event will take part in Piesang Valley Hall, R200 will get you in. Don’t miss out on soulful music from the Hassan’Adas with their special guest Buddy Wells. Be prepared to dance as this band brings you Afro Latin sounds with elements of Cape jazz.
